Food & Beverage Filtaworx FW050 Humpolec, Czech Republic

Overview

Bernard brews with water from its own wells. An FW050 automatic filter at the treatment plant inlet takes out the fine sand before it reaches the sand filtration — chemical-free, and it cleans itself.

The Challenge

The Bernard Brewery draws its brewing water from its own underground wells in the countryside around Humpolec. Consistent water quality is what keeps the beer consistent, so the treatment plant runs without dosing chemicals.

That water carries fine undissolved solids — mainly the fine sand that occurs naturally around the bore. Left in the water, those solids load up the sand filters and shorten the run between backwashes.

The Solution

A Filtaworx FW050 automatic self-cleaning screen filter with a 100 micron screen and hydraulic drive, installed at the treatment plant inlet.

It is the first line of treatment, taking load off the sand filtration downstream. The hydraulic drive runs off line pressure, so the filter needs no external power. It cleans itself on differential pressure without interrupting flow, which suits an inlet that has to stay open.

Less load on the sand filters means a longer filtration cycle and less backwash water.
