Products & Technical Information
Filtaworx automatic self-cleaning filters are available in screen grades from 30 to 800 micron depending on the model series. Standard grades are 50, 80, 100, 120, 150, 200, 300, 400, and 800 micron; 30 micron is available on FED electric-drive models and select larger FW models. As a guide, 150 micron suits cooling-tower circuits and general process-water protection; 100 micron suits membrane and fine heat-exchanger pre-treatment; 50 micron and below are used for nozzle protection or UV pre-treatment. Sintered screens are used for high-pressure and fine-filtration applications — standard on models in the FW250EX to FW450 range and on 50 mm and 80 mm nominal-size models. FW Series: hydraulic drive — no external power required, minimum 2 bar system pressure to drive the backflush cycle. FED Series: electric gear motor drive — backflush is powered by a 240V supply rather than line pressure, so it operates from as low as 0.5 bar. No compressed air is required for either series. Both series deliver equivalent filtration quality across the same screen grades.
Yes. All automatic filters maintain continuous filtered flow during backwash. No bypass needed. Less than 1% backwash water usage.
All Filtaworx automatic self-cleaning filter bodies are stainless steel. The standard grade is SS304; SS316 is commonly available for higher chloride tolerance or food-contact applications; SS904L is available on request for aggressive water conditions. Standard models carry a GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) cover; HP variants use all-stainless construction rated to 16 bar. Fine mesh screens are manufactured in 316 SS across the full range. As a guide: SS304 suits water up to about 200 mg/L chloride, SS316 up to 2,000 mg/L, and SS904L above that. Contact sales@filtaworx.com with your water-quality analysis for a material recommendation.
DN50 (2 inch) through DN450 (18 inch). Flanged to AS/ANSI and DIN/ISO standards. BSP or NPT threaded on smaller models. Split flanges are also available. Other types of connections are available upon request.
Hydraulic-drive Filtaworx filters require a minimum line pressure of 2 bar (30 psi) during the backflush cycle; this drives the controller and suction-nozzle assembly with no external power needed. Electric-drive (FED series) filters clean via a self-reversing gearmotor powered by a 240V supply, so the backflush does not depend on line pressure — they operate from as low as 0.5 bar and need only a clear, unrestricted drain line. No compressed air is required for either series. Maximum working pressure is 10 bar (PN10) for standard units and 16 bar (PN16) for the high-pressure variant.
Correct sizing depends on maximum and minimum flow rate, operating pressure, required filtration grade, dirt loading, type of solids, water temperature, and chemical content. Backwash discharge requirements vary by series. Small diaphragm-drive models (FW050 to FW100) flush for about 5 to 7 seconds using around 30 litres per cycle, so a standard DN25 drain line is typically adequate. Large piston-drive hydraulic models (FW100EX to FW450) flush for approximately 15 to 17 seconds consuming around 150 litres per cycle, and the drain line should be matched to the backflush flow rate of the specific model. Electric-drive FED series units require a dedicated drain pipe of at least DN50 (or DN80 for runs exceeding 10 metres), routed downhill with no back-pressure or siphon risk. Backwash water accounts for less than 1% of throughput volume over time.
Yes. Multiple filters can be installed in parallel to handle flow rates beyond the capacity of a single unit or to provide redundancy in critical installations. The FED electric-drive series supports Master/Slave controller configurations for coordinated backflush sequencing across a filter bank, ensuring only one unit backflushes at a time while the others remain in service. PLC-controlled slave filters can also be integrated into existing process-control systems. For hydraulic-drive models, each unit operates independently with its own controller.
