Bayside Brisbane Retirement Village
Bayside Brisbane, Queensland
Overview
Weed and algae were fouling the irrigation tanks at a 50-acre garden estate, forcing a vac truck on site every three months. An FWAE1 brush filter upstream of the tanks stretched that to every 18 — and paid for itself in the same time.
The Challenge
This premium Bayside Brisbane retirement village maintains 50 acres of gardens in an English country manor style, with roughly 400 native and exotic plants around each villa. Landscaping at that standard needs a clean, reliable irrigation supply, and the site's water source could not provide one.
Irrigation water comes from on-site dams fed by overflow from a natural waterway. That water carries heavy loads of weed, organic debris and algae.
The contamination fouled the 80,000 L irrigation holding tanks continuously. Clearing them meant a vac truck on site every three months — a standing cost in labour and contractors, with system downtime around each clean, and no end to it.
The Solution
An FWAE1 Automatic Brush Filter, installed upstream of the holding tanks.
Placement is the point. The filter removes organic material and algae before the water reaches storage, so the tanks and the irrigation infrastructure downstream never see it. Cleaning is automatic — no manual intervention in the cycle.
Routine vacuum truck call-outs stopped. The holding tanks stay clean, irrigation reliability improved, and the maintenance budget and crew went to higher-value work. Return on investment landed inside 18 months, driven by the cleaning costs removed, the lower labour requirement, and the uptime and asset protection gained.
The installation shows what automatic filtration does to a problem water source: it turns it into a reliable, low-maintenance irrigation supply, and protects a high-value landscape while it does it.
