Overview
Continental wanted its cooling circuit to stop drinking water. An FW200 automatic filter took the solids load off the main sand filters before it reached them, and cut their backwash water by 60%.
The Challenge
Continental Tyres runs a large production plant at Otrokovice in the Czech Republic. One of the cooling circuits on site was carrying a high load of undissolved solids through to the main sand filtration system.
That loading forced the large sand filters into frequent backwash cycles. Every cycle consumed water, and the cycles were coming around often. As part of Continental's environmental programme, the site set out to cut the water that filtration was consuming.
Reducing that water consumption meant reducing what reached the sand filters in the first place.
The Solution
A Filtaworx FW200 automatic self-cleaning screen filter with a 150 micron screen and hydraulic drive, installed upstream of the main sand filtration system.
The hydraulic drive runs off line pressure with no external power, and the filter cleans itself on differential pressure without taking the circuit offline.
