Narex Ždánice
Ždánice, Czech Republic
Overview
Narex needed clean cooling water for its quenching furnaces. An FED150 automatic filter now handles the full circuit flow at 150 micron — and let the site retire a large sand filter altogether.
The Challenge
Narex Ždánice manufactures taps for customers worldwide. The quenching furnaces at the plant depend on a reliable cooling circuit, and that circuit depends on clean water.
The circuit is cooled by an open cooling tower, which pulls in a steady load of airborne debris — heaviest from spring through to autumn. Those solids clog the circuit and foul the components downstream.
Before the Filtaworx filter, the site ran a large sand filter to deal with the load. It worked, but it consumed a lot of backwash water doing it.
The Solution
A Filtaworx FED150 automatic self-cleaning screen filter with a 150 micron screen and electric drive, installed on the cooling circuit.
The filter removes every particle larger than 150 micron that the open tower introduces, and it does it on the full circuit flow rather than a side stream. Backwash runs on differential pressure with a time-based fallback.
With the full flow filtered to 150 micron, the site was able to decommission the large sand filter entirely and replace it with a small side-stream filter that polishes out the very fine particles.

The Results
100%

Lower
Backwash water consumption vs the decommissioned sand filter
Reduced
Maintenance workload on cooling-circuit components
Continuous
